PDU (Power Distribution Unit) is the terminal power distribution equipment that distributes the output current from UPS to each IT device. It is a key device that connects the power supply and other infrastructure with the IT system and ensures the normal operation of all equipment in the computer room. As an important guarantee for the power safety of the computer room, the stability and safety of PDU equipment is directly related to the power safety of IT equipment and even the entire computer room.
As an important part of the power distribution system in the computer room, the safety of PDU products is the most important attribute. According to statistics from relevant research organizations, 80% of electrical equipment accidents are caused by electrical interface problems. Therefore, as the power interface of computer room equipment, PDU will be one of the most concerned features of customers due to its safety and reliability.
To ensure the safety of electrical equipment, the cabinet PDU must not only be able to withstand the total power of the IT room design load, but also have excellent protection mechanisms. For example, the APC PDU series products, in addition to having high-reliability electrical performance such as low temperature rise, high current carrying capacity, anti-misplugging, high-precision plugging and unplugging, and easy installation, also have lightning protection, networking, overload protection, current and voltage metering, and threshold/alarm functions, ensuring that users can choose appropriate products according to their needs, thereby improving the reliability of the entire room system.
By installing APC PDU, the power distribution in the cabinet can be made more neat, reliable, safe, professional and beautiful, and the maintenance of the power supply in the cabinet can be made more convenient and reliable. It is different from ordinary sockets in the following points:
(1) The functions of the two are different: ordinary sockets only have the functions of power overload protection and master control switch, while PDU not only has power overload protection and master control switch, but also has functions such as lightning protection, surge voltage protection, anti-static and fire protection.
(2) The materials of the two are different: ordinary sockets are made of plastic, while PDU power sockets are made of metal, which has anti-static properties.
(3) The two have different application areas: ordinary sockets are generally used in homes or offices to provide power for computers and other electrical appliances, while PDU socket power supplies are generally used in data centers, network systems and industrial environments, installed on equipment racks to provide power for switches, routers and other equipment.
(4) The load power of the two is different: the cable configuration of ordinary sockets is weaker, and its current is generally 10A/16A, and the rated load power is 4000W. The configuration of PDU power sockets is better than that of ordinary sockets. Its current can be 10A/16A/32A/65A, etc., which can meet more needs. Its rated load power can reach more than 4000W, which can meet the power requirements of the computer room. Moreover, when the load of the PDU power socket is too large, it can automatically cut off the power and has a certain fire prevention function.
(5) The service life of the two is different: the service life of an ordinary socket is generally 2 to 3 years, and the number of plug-in and unplugging times is about 4,500 to 5,000. The service life of a PDU power socket can reach 10 years, and the number of plug-in and unplugging times is more than 10,000, which is more than 5 times that of an ordinary socket.
