APC UPS, Battery

How to prevent UPS fire accidents from occurring?

1. Equipment selection: By selecting products with better fire resistance, the safety of the battery system can be improved, and the occurrence of fires caused by occasional failures can be minimized to the greatest extent possible.

2. Install short-circuit protection on the battery busbar branch

Timely cut off the short-circuit current and install DC fuses or circuit breakers in each branch of the battery combiner box. Otherwise, if the UPS host or circuit fails, it will cause a continuous short circuit in the battery pack, which cannot be interrupted, resulting in damage to the battery pack and cables, increasing fire losses, and also posing a risk to the personal safety of the disposal personnel.

3. Battery monitoring system

Set up a battery monitoring system that can monitor the current, voltage, capacity, internal resistance, and other parameters of each battery in real time, and provide timely alarms for each battery failure.

4. Strengthen the daily maintenance of UPS batteries, regularly remove dust and static electricity

Regularly removing dust and static electricity from UPS power batteries is not only about removing dust and maintaining good heat dissipation of the equipment, but also a process of “checking” the entire UPS to eliminate safety hazards. Therefore, regularly removing dust from UPS is the most important.

Looking at the causes of UPS fires, they are basically related to dust, so as long as dust and static electricity are removed regularly, UPS can be well protected from computer room fires.
