In the UPS system, it can be said that the battery is the backbone of the system, and a power source without a battery can only be referred to as a Constant Voltage Constant Frequency (CVCF) power source. UPS can achieve uninterrupted power supply because it has a battery. When the mains power is abnormal, the frequency converter directly converts the chemical energy of the battery into AC power, and the electrical equipment can operate continuously.
Currently, maintenance free sealed lead-acid batteries widely used in small and medium-sized UPS power supplies account for over 50% of the total cost of APC UPS power supplies. According to statistics, the production technology of UPS power supply is relatively mature, and about 50% of UPS power supply failures are related to APC UPS batteries. At present, China’s power supply is becoming increasingly perfect, especially in cities. Long term power outages rarely occur, and many important departments use dual channel power sources and diesel generators to ensure power supply, which has relaxed people’s concerns about UPS batteries. For daily maintenance, due to the lack of effective maintenance, most UPS batteries are not aware of the health status of their UPS batteries. As a result, once the power supply fails for a long time, it may not function as designed. On the other hand, as user load continues to increase, power density becomes increasingly concentrated. As a result, the load on the UPS power supply also increases accordingly, and the problem of insufficient battery delay will become more prominent.
The failure of APC UPS batteries is mainly due to insufficient terminal voltage, insufficient capacity, or instantaneous discharge current that does not meet the requirements of carrying the load. In the process of using an uninterruptible power supply system, people often unilaterally believe that the battery can be maintenance free without needing attention. Therefore, it is of great significance to strengthen the correct use and maintenance of UPS batteries, extend their service life, and reduce the failure rate of UPS uninterruptible power supply systems.
