4. Differences and development trends between PDU and ordinary sockets
Currently, PDUs are rapidly developing towards intelligence and networking, focusing on realizing the functions of power safety management and operation management in data centers. Through personalized and precise metering of various electrical parameters, not only can real-time management of existing power equipment be achieved, but the safety boundaries of the existing rack power system can also be clearly identified, thus enabling safe management of rack power consumption. Furthermore, by detecting the real-time power consumption of each IT device, detailed power data of the data center can be obtained, thereby enabling operation management of rack and even data center power consumption.
5. Small Data Center Rack Power System
For small data centers, although the power supply logic still follows the routing shown in Figure 1, the physical form is quite different: UPS and its output power distribution can be integrated into the rack. For small data centers, the rack power system has more features: in addition to PDUs, there are UPS (including battery systems), monitoring systems, etc. The system integration is improved, and maintenance and management become easier.
6. Conclusion
With the rapid development of data centers, data center rack power systems are also evolving rapidly. Essentially, system reliability, high capacity, and ease of monitoring remain the main technological trends in the development of data center rack power systems. Rack power systems will continue to provide crucial support for the safe and reliable operation of data centers.
