APC PDU

Intelligent PDU solutions eliminate the conflict between safety and energy consumption ( Part 2)

The value of smart PDUs

Taking Raritan PX Smart PDU solution as an example, it can not only provide remote real-time power monitoring, but also provide environmental monitoring functions such as rack temperature, humidity, floor pressure and airflow, and provide advance notification of planned capacity values to improve rack power utilization and save costs through energy-saving measures.

PX Smart PDU provides real-time remote power monitoring capabilities, enabling the monitoring of relevant parameters, including current (unit: amperes), voltage, power (unit: kVA, kW) and energy consumption with billing-level accuracy of ±1%. It can even monitor the above-mentioned parameters for each power outlet individually, which can maximize profits for data centers.

PX Smart PDU can work with Raritan’s DCIM monitoring software Power IQ to help data center and facility managers monitor and effectively utilize the existing data center power infrastructure in real time. It provides data center health views, power analysis tables, cooling curves and related reports to discover potential power problems hidden at the infrastructure level and to obtain real-time power load, trends and capacity, thereby helping managers improve data center effectiveness, enhance capacity planning and improve energy efficiency.

Simply plug and play Raritan’s environmental sensors into the PX series smart power supplies, and environmental data parameters are instantly transmitted to Raritan’s DCIM software. A user-friendly web interface allows data center managers to view real-time environmental data and make predictions. For example, detailed micro-ambient temperature information can be used to optimize cooling systems, allowing for appropriate increases in ambient temperature to save energy while preventing critical IT equipment from overheating; pressure differentials in hot or cold aisle zones can be monitored to detect leaks promptly and reduce unnecessary airflow to save energy; and cooling airflow and return hot airflow can be monitored to ensure that cooling and sealing systems are operating at their best.

Using advanced intelligent PDUs for intelligent energy management meets the triple requirements of effective operation, environmental protection, and financial needs, and should become a new trend in data center operation and maintenance management.
