Analysis of APC UPS battery charging issues

Seven things to pay attention to when using APC UPS batteries

1. When floating charging, please use a charging voltage of 2.275 V/cell (set value at 20 °C) for constant voltage charging or a current below 0.002 CA for constant current charging. When the temperature is 0C or lower or 40C or higher, it is necessary to correct the charging voltage, and every degree change from 20C as a starting point, the voltage per cell changes by − 3 mv.

2.During cyclic charging, the charging voltage is set at 2.40-2.50V per cell (set value at 20 ℃) for constant voltage charging. When charging at temperatures below 5C or above 35 ℃, start at 20 ℃ and adjust the charging voltage by -4mv/cell for each degree of change.

3. The initial charging current should be controlled below 0.25CA.

4. The charging capacity is set to 100-120% of the discharging capacity, but when the ambient temperature is below 5C, it is set to 120-130%.

5. The lower the temperature (below 5C), the longer the charging end time, and the higher the temperature (above 35C), the more prone it is to overcharging. Therefore, especially during cyclic use, it is better to charge within 5C-30C.

6.To prevent overcharging, try to install a charging timer or automatically switch to trickle charging mode.

7. When charging, the battery temperature should be controlled within the range of -15C~+40C.
