The importance of setting up UPS bypass in data centers

The power supplied by APC uninterruptible power supply is crucial for the success of modern data centers, and even the smallest disturbance to the continued power supply can lead to! T shutdown. Its related losses quickly accumulate thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

This is why APC uninterruptible power supply (UPS) has become a critical component of data center critical infrastructure. But what if there are problems with the APC UPS power supply itself? But when the worst-case scenario occurs and the UPS power supply is unable to fully support critical loads, it will switch to bypass mode, providing an active power path around the device and seeing the load run while powered by the main power supply until the UPS power supply goes online from scratch.

There are two main APC UPS bypass methods, the fundamental difference lies in the physical orientation of the UPS system bypass.

Firstly, construct a centralized UPS bypass. Simply put, no matter how many UPS systems form the power maintenance system, it includes a separate bypass cabinet with a static bypass switch and all other bypass components built-in.

The alternative solution is a decentralized UPS bypass, sometimes referred to as a “distributed” system. In this equipment, each individual UPS has its own dedicated bypass and components.

Fundamentally, both organizations are completely feasible on their own, and the choice of which method to use may be attributed to personal preferences and several important factors.

The factors for selecting data center APC UPS bypass design are reliability, cost, power balance, footprint, and future planning.
