APC UPS

How often should a UPS discharge? ( Part 2)

III. Precautions for UPS Power Switches

Are there hidden tricks to turning a UPS on and off? Many people might be surprised by this!

1. UPS power-on sequence

First, check whether the polarity of the UPS power supply input terminal is consistent with the polarity of the mains power supply line. Then, check whether the total power of the load connected to the UPS power supply output terminal is within the rated power of the UPS power supply.

After the above conditions are met, turn on the power switch on the UPS power control cabinet to allow the mains power to supply power to the battery pack inside the UPS. After a period of time, turn on the power switches of the loads one by one. This will ensure that the load current will not cause excessive impact on the internal power supply circuit of the UPS.

2. UPS power shutdown sequence

First, turn off the loads connected to the UPS power output one by one, and then turn off the power switch on the power control cabinet. If the UPS power supply will not be used for a long time, you can consider unplugging the power cable connected to the mains socket to avoid the UPS power supply being struck by lightning during the rainy season, which could cause a lightning strike accident.

IV. Precautions for UPS Power Supply Operation

The total power of all loads connected to the UPS power supply should not exceed 85% of the UPS power supply’s rated power.

When connecting specific loads, we should first roughly estimate the rated power of each important load, and then simply add up the power of several loads to see if the final total power exceeds the limit. If it does, we can simply keep one of the output ports of the UPS power supply idle.

V. Precautions for UPS power supply charging

When charging the UPS battery, it’s best to do so late at night when the environment is quiet, as the UPS input power is most stable at this time. It’s also important to remember that the UPS power supply must use batteries of the exact same brand, specifications, and model to form the battery pack. Mixing different batteries is strictly prohibited, as it will not only reduce charging efficiency but also potentially cause safety hazards.
