A Comprehensive Guide to UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply ( Part 7)
2.2 Comprehensive Power Quality Optimization Function
The voltage, frequency, and waveform of municipal power grids are not absolute standards. Affected by multiple factors such as grid load fluctuations, line transmission losses, start-up and shutdown of high-power equipment in the vicinity, weather conditions, and line aging, municipal power commonly suffers from various power quality problems, including voltage spikes, voltage drops, frequency drift, harmonic distortion, voltage surges, spike pulses, and grid noise. These latent power faults do not directly cause equipment downtime, but they continuously damage precision electronic components, accelerate equipment aging, reduce equipment operating accuracy, cause data transmission errors, and lead to system freezes and crashes. In the long run, this significantly increases equipment maintenance and replacement costs.
The UPS power supply is equipped with a high-precision voltage regulation module, filtering module, and frequency calibration module, which can comprehensively optimize and correct the mains power: stabilize fluctuating voltage within the standard 220V/380V range, calibrate the offset grid frequency, filter various harmonics and high-frequency noise, suppress surges and voltage spikes, eliminate grid noise, and finally output constant voltage, constant frequency, clean and stable standard AC power, providing a high-quality power supply environment for precision load equipment, effectively extending the service life of the equipment, and ensuring the accuracy and stability of equipment operation.
2.3 Multiple electrical safety protection functions
In the operation of modern power systems, electrical faults such as overload, short circuit, overvoltage, undervoltage, overtemperature, lightning surges, and battery malfunctions occur frequently. These faults can easily lead to safety accidents such as equipment burnout, circuit fires, and system paralysis. UPS uninterruptible power supplies integrate a complete intelligent electrical protection system, providing comprehensive safety protection: when the load power exceeds the equipment’s rated power, it automatically triggers overload protection, current limiting operation, or intelligent alarms; when a short circuit fault occurs in the output circuit, it instantly cuts off the output circuit, eliminating the risk of short circuit fires; when the mains voltage is abnormally high or low, it automatically stabilizes the voltage or switches to battery power to avoid high-voltage breakdown and low-voltage shutdown problems; when the equipment operating temperature is too high, it activates powerful cooling or shutdown protection to prevent high-temperature faults; it also features a surge protection module to withstand induced lightning and surge impacts during thunderstorms, ensuring normal operation of the equipment during thunderstorms.
In addition, the UPS power supply is equipped with overcharge, over-discharge, over-temperature, and voltage difference abnormal protection for the battery pack, effectively avoiding battery safety issues such as battery bulging, leakage, premature aging, and fire, and comprehensively ensuring the operational safety of the power supply system and downstream load equipment, thus building a two-layer power safety protection system.
