The modularization of UPS is to divide the entire UPS into several parts according to its main functional components, such as power conversion, battery system, intelligent management, and communication, and then restructure each part into independent hot swappable modules based on basic functions and power capacity. In the case where modules with the same function can run in parallel, redundant configuration can be easily achieved, providing the possibility for online hot swappable maintenance and online expansion.
1.The advantages of modular UPS include:
(1)modular hot swappable design, which allows for simultaneous growth and investment, fast assembly and maintenance speed, and can effectively reduce initial investment;
(2)Adopting a modular hot swappable structure can reduce UPS maintenance time and improve system availability;
(3)High efficiency, high input/output power factor, thereby saving operating costs;
(4)Rack mounted installation method can be placed together with IT equipment without the need for a separate power room, saving space;
(5) Facilitating manufacturers’ procurement of materials, production stocking, and organization of production, effectively reducing costs.
2.Disadvantages of modular UPS:
(1)There is no output isolation transformer, which affects system performance;
(2)Hot plugging of high-power modules affects the safety of UPS systems;
(3)Equipment concentration affects load-bearing capacity;
(4)The equipment is expensive;
(5)The maintenance cost is too high, replacing the entire module brings high maintenance costs, while upgrading and maintaining components is more economical.
