4. Daily maintenance of UPS
Under normal use, UPS has minimal maintenance work on the host, mainly focusing on dust prevention and regular dust removal. Especially in areas with dry climate, there is a lot of dust in the air. The fan inside the machine will bring the dust into the machine and deposit it. When the air is humid, it will cause the control of the host to be disrupted, resulting in abnormal operation of the host and inaccurate alarms. A large amount of dust will also cause poor heat dissipation of components. Generally, it should be thoroughly cleaned once every quarter. Secondly, during dust removal, check for any looseness or loose contact between the connecting and plug-in components. In order to ensure the normal operation of UPS, the following issues should be noted during use.
① UPS should have appropriate margin in power selection. For example, when selecting a UPS for an 800W load, one should choose a power above 1000W.
② UPS should avoid frequent startup and shutdown, and it is best to stay on for a long time.
③ UPS should immediately resume charging after use, even if the battery is restored to normal condition. The charging method is to maintain a constant voltage of 2.35-2.40V, limit the initial current to no more than 0.25C5A, and ensure that the fully discharged battery is sufficient for 18-24 hours at 25 ℃.
④ If the UPS battery is a regular battery, it is necessary to regularly check the specific gravity and electrolyte level of the solution, and promptly add electrolyte or distilled water.
⑤ During the use of UPS, the float voltage should be checked once a month. When the float charge voltage of a single battery is lower than 2.20V, the entire group of batteries should be charged evenly. The method is to limit the initial current to no more than 0.25C5A in an environment of 25 ± 5 ℃, maintain a constant voltage of 2.35-2.40V, and charge for 24-48 hours.
⑥ If the user configures the long delay battery themselves, the external charger should have both constant voltage and constant current functions, and should not choose a charger with only constant voltage function to avoid affecting the service life of the battery.
⑦ Regularly wipe the battery with a soft cloth to keep the surface clean. In short, the problem with UPS is largely related to the battery. As long as the battery is used correctly and regularly maintained, it can be kept in good condition.
⑧ For backup UPS with square wave output, the power conversion time is 4-9ms. However, backup UPS with bidirectional thyristors as static switches has a very short power conversion time, only on the order of microseconds. This kind of situation cannot guarantee 100% reliable power supply to the load. For this type of power supply, if an accidental interruption or destruction of the computer’s working program occurs, that is, the computer performs a self-test operation, it does not mean a fault. Therefore, UPS with square wave output is not suitable for use in the power supply system of computer networks.
