(2) Protection function
PDU has multiple security protection mechanisms:
- Overload protection: When the total power of the connected equipment exceeds the rated power of the PDU, the overload protection device will quickly act, cut off the power supply, and prevent fire or equipment damage caused by overload.
- Overvoltage protection: When the input voltage rises abnormally and exceeds the normal tolerance range of the device, the PDU can automatically adjust the voltage or cut off the circuit to ensure that the output voltage is stable in a safe range and protect sensitive electronic components from high-voltage breakdown.
- Leakage protection, real-time monitoring of current leakage situation. Once leakage is detected, the power supply is immediately cut off to ensure personnel safety and eliminate the risk of electric shock.
- Lightning protection function, the built-in lightning protection module of PDU can instantly introduce the strong current generated by lightning strikes into the ground, effectively absorb and discharge surge energy, and protect connected devices from lightning damage.
2. Intelligent PDU
With the rapid development of technology, the demand for refined power management in data centers is increasing day by day. Traditional PDUs are no longer able to meet the needs, and intelligent PDUs have emerged. It utilizes built-in high-precision sensors to monitor parameters such as voltage, current, power, and temperature in real-time, and can remotely control switches, set thresholds, and automatically sound alarms to achieve intelligent power management. This helps improve management efficiency, reduce operating costs, timely detect and solve potential power problems, and transmit data to the management system through the network. Operations personnel can monitor the power consumption of thousands of servers at any time through the intelligent PDU monitoring platform. Once an abnormal increase in the current of a server is detected, it may indicate hardware failure or malicious software attack. Operations personnel can quickly locate the problem, take timely measures, and avoid failure delays.
Intelligent PDUs not only have the ability to ‘see’, but also possess powerful ‘control’ capabilities. With the remote management function, operation and maintenance personnel can remotely control the on/off of devices connected to PDUs through mobile apps or computer software, regardless of their location, achieving flexible scheduling of devices. During business downturns, such as late night hours, remotely shut down some non critical business servers to save electricity consumption; Before peak work hours, remotely activate to ensure normal business operations. Intelligent PDU also supports scheduled task function, which can automatically perform device switch operations according to the preset time schedule. Some high-end intelligent PDUs also have automatic switching function, which can ensure that connected devices are not affected and continue to operate stably in milliseconds when abnormal mains power is detected. Seamlessly switch to a backup power source (such as UPS) to ensure that connected devices are not affected and continue to operate stably.
